A Different Pointe of View

The wierdest thing happened just recently. Chris and I went out to celebrate his birthday. We went to this amazing, gorgeous, sophisticated restaurant (called A Different Pointe of View) to celebrate. It was high up on the hills at the top of a Hilton hotel . One side of the restaurant was all glass so you could see great views of Phoenix at night. As you can imagine, it was not cheap, so we went to IN -n-OUT burger first (UK peeps - think Burger King) and had dessert at the restaurant. After the brief humiliation of the manager taking all the plates, menus, crockery and cutlery away and leaving us with a glass of water each when he realised we weren't having the works (I think he was sorely disappointed. The English accents definitely held so much promise and yet delivered so very little), we were treated to exquisite (i.e. tiny) desserts. What a night.

But the night was not over, as we left the restaurant we passed the hotel bar and heard some seriously good music. The back door was open and we wanted to get our money's worth, so we went in. It was so good... the sounds of my kind of music hidden away on a hilltop. It had taken over a year to find. I looked around to see who I was sharing this great night with. And the weirdest thing, was every single couple in the room (and there were many) was bi racial. Every single one. Black guy, white girl. Black girl, white guy. Black girl, Korean guy. White guy, Hispanic girl. And then in every group of friends, there was some interracial mix. What was going on, some hidden interracial utopia for Neo Soul types? I don't know, but it felt strangely comfortable and comfortably strange.

I think I've mentioned before that many communities here whilst very diverse aren't especially integrated. Upon the hilltop hidden away was this different point of view, and whilst it comes at a price, its worth every penny and has a soulful soundtrack.
